PREMIO Troubleshooting Guide
SCSI Controller

Jump to the self-diagnostic flowchart, or select the specific problem you're having with your SCSI controller:

The system board doesn't detect the SCSI controller.
The SCSI controller isn't detecting my SCSI devices.
My operating system doesn't see my SCSI controller.

THE SYSTEM BOARD DOESN'T DETECT THE SCSI CONTROLLER
1. PCI SCSI controller requires a PCI busmastering slot. If the SCSI controller is not in busmastering slot, most likely it will not work.
2. Consult your system board manual to determine which PCI slots are busmastering. Typically, the PCI slot closest to the processor and/or AGP slot is a busmastering PCI slot.
3. If your SCSI controller is integrated onto the system board, make sure the SCSI controller is enabled in the BIOS.

THE SCSI CONTROLLER ISN'T DETECTING MY SCSI DEVICES
1. Make sure your SCSI devices are configured correctly. That is, make sure their SCSI ID and termination are setup properly.
2. If the SCSI controller isn't detecting your SCSI HDD, please see the
SCSI HDD Troubleshooting Guide.

MY OPERATING SYSTEM DOESN'T SEE MY SCSI CONTROLLER
1. Unlike the onboard IDE controller, you must load the SCSI controller driver before the operating system (OS) can use it.
2. Microsoft Windows 98 comes with default drivers for most SCSI controllers available on the market today. But with other OS such as Microsoft Windows NT and Novell Netware, you must manually load the SCSI driver yourself; consult your SCSI controller user's manual for more detailed instructions.

ADD SCSI CONTROLLER TO PCI BUSMASTERING SLOT

CHECK SCSI CONTROLER
1. You can check if your SCSI controller is detected by your system board by looking for the SCSI controller BIOS message. Most SCSI controllers allow you to go into the SCSI BIOS setup by pressing a specific keyboard combination. For example, you can get into most Adaptec SCSI controller BIOS by hitting control-A.
2. If you do not see the SCSI controller BIOS message, then you may have a defective controller. Try the controller on a different system and see if it works.

LOAD SCSI CONTROLLER DRIVERS
1. Unless you're running Windows 98, you'd have to manually load the SCSI driver for your specific operating system. Consult your SCSI controller user's manual for more details.
2. If you have an Adaptec SCSI controller, click
here for the drivers.
