Microsoft Windows 2000
Creating a New Drive

First, bring up the Control Panel by clicking on the Start button and select Settings / Control Panel. Then double click on the Administrative Tools icon.

Control Panel

Then double click on the Computer Management icon.

Computer Management

This will bring up the Computer Management window. Select Disk Management. On the lower right hand panel, you can see disk 0 has 2.54GB of unallocated space.

Disk Management

Right click on the unallocated space and select Create Partition...

Create Partition...

This will launch the Create Partition Wizard. Click on NEXT to continue.

Control Panel

Specify the size of the partition you wish to create. The default value is the total amount of the unallocated space. Click NEXT to continue.

Control Panel

This will bring up the partition type window. Select either Primary or Extended partition and click on NEXT to continue.

Control Panel

You can now assign a drive letter to your partition. Select the default for now. You can always change it later if you wish. Click on NEXT to go on.

Control Panel

For now, select the "Do not format this partition" option and click on NEXT to continue.

Control Panel

And finally, you're done. Click on FINISH to continue.

Control Panel

Now you have to format the partition. Right click on the E: drive and select Format...

Control Panel

This will bring up the Format options. I'd recommend you select NTFS as the file system and check the "Perform a quick format" box. Click on OK.

Control Panel

A warning window will appear. Click on OK to continue. It may take a few seconds or minutes to complete, depending on the size of your partition.
