Modem FAQs and Installation Notes

3Com/U.S. Robotics V.90 Uprade

  • Choose the following modem for V.90 upgrade:

  • Sportster 56K fax/data [V.90 Firmware Upgrade] [95/98 V.90 driver]
  • Sportster 56K voice/fax/data [V.90 Firmware Upgrade] [95/98 V.90 driver]

    Once you have successfully updated the firmware to V.90, you must download the new V.90 95/98 driver; otherwise, Windows 95/98 may not recognize the new V.90 modem.

    3Com/U.S. Robotics 56K voice

  • Windows NT 4.0: To add the modem, go to Control Panel / Modems and let NT auto-detect the modem. If you wish, you can use the Windows 95 driver disk to setup the modem under NT.
  • DOS/WfW 3.11: Use the jumpers and set the modem for COM2 and disable COM2 in the BIOS. Don't set the modem to plug and play modem with DOS/WfW 3.11!

  • Windows NT 4.0: To add the modem, go to Control Panel / Modems and let NT auto-detect the modem. If you wish, you can use the Windows 95 driver disk to setup the modem under NT.
