    BIOS Questions

How do I get into the BIOS setup?

  • Keep hitting the DELETE key during the system memory count.

Do you have a BIOS history file that includes the problem(s) fixed for each revision of the BIOS?

  • Yes, click here for the file.

How do I update or flash my BIOS?

  • Updated BIOS are available on our FTP site.

How do I clear the CMOS? How do I clear the BIOS password?

  • Turn off the system and disconnect the power cord to the system's power supply.
  • Move JBAT1 to 2-3 and leave it there for five seconds; move JBAT1 back to 1-2.
  • Reconnect power cord and turn on the system.

    Hardware Questions

What power supply should I use?

  • The power supply should be 300W or higher; you can use a single 300W+ power supply.
  • Or you can use a power supply with two ATX power connectors.
  • Avoid using two separate ATX power supplies.

There are two ATX power supply connectors on the system board; which one should I use?

  • You may use either one; although it's recommended that you use the one that's closest to the DIMM sockets.

What's the difference between U2W, UW, and Ultra SCSI?

  • The main difference is data transfer speed.
  • U2W (Ultra2Wide) is rated at 80MB/sec, UW (UltraWide) is 40MB/sec, and Ultra SCSI is 20MB/sec.
  • Click here for more details about U2W SCSI.

Can I connect three different SCSI device to the onboard SCSI simultaneously?

  • Yes, you can. Just remember, you must have a TERMINATOR at the end of each SCSI cable.

I'm only using one processor now; do I need something in the second processor slot?

  • Yes, you need to use the processor terminator card in the second slot, which is the slot 2 next to EDGE of the system board.
  • If you wish to add a second processor, it MUST be the same speed and have the same amount of L2 cache as the first processor.

What kind of DIMMs should I use?

  • The system board only accepts unbuffered, 3.3V PC100 SDRAM DIMM, ECC or non-ECC.

Can I use just one DIMM?

  • Yes, the system board will work with one DIMM.

What is the maximum memory capacity?

  • 2GB: Using four registered 512MB SDRAM DIMMs.

    Operating System Specific Questions

Do you have a troubleshooting guide for Windows 98?

  • Yes, we do; please see PREMIO PC Windows 98 Troubleshooting Guide.

Does Microsoft Windows 95 or 98 support multiprocessor?

  • No, the only Microsoft operating system that supports multiprocessor is Windows NT 4.0, or the forthcoming Windows 2000.

Do you have a troubleshooting guide for Windows 95?

  • Yes, we do; please see PREMIO PC Windows 95 Troubleshooting Guide.

Do you have a troubleshooting guide for Windows NT 4.0?

  • Yes, we do; please see PREMIO Windows NT 4.0 Troubleshooting Guide.

I've recently added a second processor; how do I get NT to recognize it?

  • You need to run the uniprocessor to multiprocessor upgrade that is available in the NT Resource Toolkit.
  • Or you can reinstall NT with the second processor present.

How do I install Windows NT using the onboard Adaptec 7890 U2W/LVD SCSI controller?

  • First, you need the three NT boot disks; if you have the NT CD, but not the disks, you can create them on another system with CD-ROM access.
  • Put the NT CD in the other system and go to \i386 and type "winnt /ox" and have three blank formatted disks ready.
  • Boot off the disks and do a SELECTIVE install; this is required because NT does not come with default SCSI driver for the Adaptec 7890 controller.
  • When prompted, insert the manufacturer's driver disk for the Adaptec and select the appropriate controller and operating system version. Click here to download the Adaptec NT drivers. (Be sure to extract the drivers to a blank floppy disk with the -D switch!)

The SW1 jumper block is located at the lower left hand corner of the board; right next to the BIOS. Set it for the correct speed for your Pentium II/III Xeon processor; the L2 cache size does not matter.

For the keyboard lock jumper, putting a jumper on it will lock the keyboard; so it should be open by default. If the HDD LED, power LED, or speaker doesn't work, try reversing the connector.

Don't mix up the PS/2 mouse and keyboard connector, otherwise your keyboard may not work properly.
