Intel Celeron and Pentium III FC-PGA Performance
page 2 of 2
The
graph above shows the raw processor performance of each CPU while running
Windows 98SE. Even the slowest Pentium III/500 is almost twice as fast as
the highest speed Celeron/533.
The
same test under Windows NT is just as dramatic. The equation seems to be:
Faster processor speed, faster FSB, and larger L2 cache = big performance boost.
The
chart above shows the video performance under Windows 98SE for each processor.
Again, the scores for the Pentium III processors are higher than the Celerons'.
And
the last chart above shows the video performance under Windows NT. We see
the results of the Pentium III are even better than Windows 98SE.
It's
no surprise than the Coppermine Pentium III socket 370 processors are much
faster than their Celeron counterparts. With higher clock speeds and double the
amount of L2 cache, the Coppermine Pentium III sets a new level of performance for
socket 370 based systems. And with the introduction of the Intel 810E chipset,
which will support the higher 133MHz FSB, it's clear that Intel is serious
about their socket design.
