    BIOS Questions

How do I get into the BIOS setup?

  • Keep hitting the DELETE key during the system memory count.

Do you have a BIOS history file that includes the problem(s) fixed for each revision of the BIOS?

  • Yes, click here for the file.

How do I update or flash my BIOS?

  • Updated BIOS are available on our FTP site.

How do I clear the CMOS? How do I clear the BIOS password?

  • Power off your system, move JBAT1 (see system board diagram) to 2-3 and leave it there for 2 or 3 seconds.
  • Move JBAT1 back to 1-2 and power up your system.

I have flashed my BIOS, but now I get no video!

  • Try clearing your CMOS (see above).
  • Make sure you've flashed the BIOS using the correct BIOS for your system board; flashing the wrong BIOS will render the board inoperable.

    Hardware Questions

My NUMLOCK LED on my keyboard stays on, even after I have powered the system off.

  • Check the JKBV jumper and make sure it's set to 2-3.
  • Click here to see the system board diagram. The JKBV jumper is located next to the ATX power supply connector.

I have a Creative Labs Soundblaster Live! soundcard, and I'm getting a blue screen error when I'm using a Pentium III/600E or higher processor; slower Pentium III processors work fine.

  • Try updating the Soundblaster Live! driver with this update (5.6MB).

I've received a small black wire with the system board. What is that for?

  • The wire is actually a temperature probe for your AGP video card; refer to the user's manual for more details.

I've just changed my processor and now I get no video when I turn on the system.

  • Power off the system. Hold down the F10 key and power up the system.

I've my CPU speed too high in the BIOS and now I get no video.

  • Power off the system. Hold down the F10 key and power up the system.

I've turned the system on, but I'm getting no power (i.e., power supply fan does not spin).

  • Make sure the cable from the case's power switch is connected properly to the board's power on jumper; refer to the motherboard manual.
  • Try reseating the ATX power connector to the motherboard.
  • Disconnect all the power connectors to your HDD, FDD, CD-ROM, etc. then try powering the system up.
  • Try replacing the ATX power supply.

I have two USB ports in the back, how do I enable them?

  • Windows NT 4.0 currently do not support USB.
  • Windows 98 or Windows 20000 comes with native USB drivers.
  • Windows 95 (version 950B/950C only!) can enable the USB ports by getting the Microsoft USB driver and Intel USB INF update.

Can I use just one DIMM?

  • Yes, the system board will work with just one DIMM present.

What is the BX3's maximum memory capacity?

  • It's 768MB if you use three registered 256MB DIMMs.

What kind of DIMMs should I use?

  • The motherboard only accepts PC66 or PC100, unbuffered, 3.3V SDRAM DIMM ONLY!

    Processor Settings
There are no physical jumpers or DIP switches to set for the processor speed; it is set in the BIOS.

To get into the BIOS, keep hitting the DELETE key during the memory count screen. Then go into the CPU Plug & Play II setting. You should set Adjust CPU Voltage to AUTO and CPU Speed to MANUAL.

Two options control the actual CPU speed: CPU Ratio and CPU/PCI Frequency. Consult the table below for the correct settings. If you accidentally set your CPU speed too high, then power off, hold down the F10 key, and power on again. This will reset the CPU speed to the default setting.

Since the BX3 is based on the Intel 440BX AGPset, it will only support front side bus (FSB) speeds of 66MHz and 100MHz. If you set the CPU/PCI Frequency to 100MHz or higher, then you are overclocking the CPU and the entire system!

    Processor CPU/PCI Frequency CPU Ratio
    Intel Pentium II/233 66/33MHz 3.5x
    Intel Pentium II/266 66/33MHz 4.0x
    Intel Pentium II/300 66/33MHz 4.5x
    Intel Pentium II/333 66/33MHz 5.0x
    Intel Pentium II/350 "Katmai" 100/33MHz 3.5x

    Intel Pentium III/550 "Katmai" 100/33MHz 5.5x
    Intel Pentium III/600 "Katmai" 100/33MHz 6.0x
    Intel Pentium III/600E "Coppermine" 100/33MHz 6.0x
    Intel Pentium III/650 "Coppermine" 100/33MHz 6.5x
    Intel Pentium III/700 "Coppermine" 100/33MHz 7.0x
    Intel Pentium III/750 "Coppermine" 100/33MHz 7.5x
    Intel Pentium III/800 "Coppermine" 100/33MHz 8.0x

PREMIO CS1 Front Panel Connector Block
For the keyboard lock jumper, putting a jumper on it will lock the keyboard; so it should be open by default. If the HDD LED, power LED, or speaker doesn't work, try reversing the connector.

    Back I/O Connectors
     Back I/O Connectors
Don't mix up the PS/2 mouse and keyboard connector, otherwise your keyboard may not work properly.
