    BIOS Questions

How do I get into the BIOS setup?

  • Keep hitting the DELETE key during the system memory count.

I've setup the CPU speed jumpers correctly, but the BIOS is still showing the wrong CPU speed.

  • Go into the BIOS and go to CHIPSET FEATURES SETUP and make sure the option "CPU Host/PCI Frequency" is set to 100/33MHz.

Do you have a BIOS history file that includes the problem(s) fixed for each revision of the BIOS?

  • Yes, click here for the file.

How do I update or flash my BIOS?

  • Updated BIOS are available on our FTP site.

I'm running Windows 9x and plug & play doesn't seem to work.

  • Go into the BIOS's PCI/PnP Configuration and enable the PnP OS option.

I need to allocate a specific IRQ (interrupt request) and/or DMA channel for an ISA card.

  • Go into the BIOS's PCI/PnP Configuration and set Resource Controlled By from Auto to Manual.
  • A list of IRQs and DMA channels will appear; set the required IRQ number from PCI/PnP to Legacy/ISA.

How do I clear the CMOS? How do I clear the BIOS password?

  • Power off your system, move JBAT1 to 2-3 and leave it there for 2 or 3 seconds.
  • Move JBAT1 back to 1-2 and power up your system.

I have flashed my BIOS, but now I get no video!

  • Try clearing your CMOS (see above).
  • Make sure you've flashed it using the correct BIOS for your system board; flashing a wrong BIOS will render the board inoperable.

    Hardware Questions

What is the difference between the Intel Celeron/300 and Celeron/300A?

  • The 300A or 333A processor comes with 128K L2 cache.

    I'm have a Celeron/366 or 400, what's the correct jumper settings?

  • The Celeron/366 or 400's clock multiplier is locked.
  • Which means it does not matter what your jumper settings are; the BIOS will autodetect and run the processor at the correct speed.

How do I disable the onboard ATI video?

  • JP2 closed enables the onboard ATI video; open disables it.
  • JP2 is located to the left of the green Intel 440BX chipset heatsink.

How do I disable the onboard Creative Labs ES137x PCI sound?

  • Go into the BIOS / Integrated Peripherals, and disable the onboard sound.

Can I upgrade to more than 8MB SDRAM video memory?

  • No, the motherboard's video memory is fixed at 8MB.

I've turned the system on, but I'm getting no power (i.e., power supply fan does not spin).

  • Make sure the cable from the case's power switch is connected properly to the board's power on jumper; refer to the motherboard manual.
  • Try reseating the ATX power connector to the motherboard.
  • Disconnect all the power connectors to your HDD, FDD, CD-ROM, etc. then try powering the system up.
  • Try replacing the ATX power supply.

I have two USB ports in the back, how do I enable them?

  • Windows NT 4.0 currently do not support USB.
  • Windows 98 and 2000 comes with native USB drivers.
  • Windows 95 (version 950B/950C only!) can enable the USB ports by getting the Microsoft USB driver and Intel USB INF update.

I've installed a Pentium II/333 CPU and have set the jumper settings correctly, but it shows up as 133MHz.

  • Check to make sure the CPU you have is 333, not 300.
  • Trying to overlock a 300 to 333 will show up as 133MHz.

Can I use just one DIMM?

  • Yes, the system board will work with one DIMM.

What's the difference between regular SDRAM and PC100 SDRAM?

  • PC100 SDRAM is required for Pentium II/350MHz or higher CPU.
  • For Celeron or up to Pentium II/333, you can use regular SDRAM (PC66) or PC100 SDRAM.

    What's the maximum memory capacity?

  • 256MB: Using two 128MB SDRAM DIMMs.

What kind of DIMMs should I use?

  • The motherboard only accepts unbuffered, tin leads, 3.3V SDRAM DIMM.

I have a PnP soundcard and PnP modem, but I'm getting conflicts.

  • It's recommended that you let the modem take COM2 (2F8h/IRQ3); see the question below.
  • And set the soundcard at 220h/IRQ5/DMA1, if possible.
  • Also, try adding the card in one at all time; put the soundcard in first, let 95 detect it, then add the modem.

I have a plug and play modem, how do I setup it for COM2 in Windows 9x?

  • Disable serial port 2 in the BIOS and remove the COM2 port, if present, in Windows 9x's Device Manager.
  • Also, make sure the Plug and Play option is enabled in the BIOS.

The SW1 jumper block is located at the lower right hand corner of the board; just to the right of the BIOS. 1 is closest to the edge of the board, and 4 is facing the DIMM sockets.

If the system is showing the wrong CPU speed even though you've set the jumpers correctly, go into the BIOS. Go to CHIPSET FEATURES SETUP and make sure the option "CPU Host/PCI Frequency" is set to 100/33MHz.

For the keyboard lock jumper, putting a jumper on it will lock the keyboard; so it should be open by default. If the HDD LED, power LED, or speaker doesn't work, try reversing the connector.

Don't mix up the PS/2 mouse and keyboard connector, otherwise your keyboard may not work properly. It's highly recommended that you use powered speakers for the onboard sound. The joystick port is also the MIDI port.
