Premio 815EA Performance Analysis Conclusion
page 10 of 10

In summary, the Intel 815E is a worthy successor to the aging 440BX chipset. By offering native SDRAM support at 133MHz and ATA-100, Intel's new chipset is aimed directly at the VIA Apollo Pro 133A. The 815E is also flexible with its onboard video and open AGP slot. It works well as a value system and a highend machine. Benchmarks have shown us that the 815E is faster than the VIA Apollo Pro 133A chipset, but not overwhelmingly faster.

The only real shortcoming of the 815E is its maximum memory capacity, which caps out at 512MB, as compared to 1.5GB for the VIA chipset. But from Intel's perspective, if you require a system with more than 512MB of RAM, then most likely it will be used as a server or a workstation. In which case, you'd probably be better off going with a multiprocessor system.
