    BIOS Questions

    How do I get into the BIOS setup?

  • Keep hitting the DELETE key during the system memory count.

    Do you have a BIOS history file that includes the problem(s) fixed for each revision of the BIOS?

  • Yes, click here for the file.

    How do I update or flash my BIOS?

  • Updated BIOS are available on our FTP site.
  • Also, make sure JP3 (BIOS flash lock/unlock) is closed.

    I'm running Windows 9x and plug & play doesn't seem to work.

  • Go into the BIOS's PCI/PnP Configuration and enable the PnP OS option.

    How do I clear the CMOS? How do I clear the BIOS password?

  • Power off your system, move JBAT1/J26 to 2-3 and leave it there for 2 or 3 seconds.
  • Move JBAT1/J26 back to 1-2 and power up your system.

    I have flashed my BIOS, but now I get no video!

  • Try clearing your CMOS (see above).
  • Make sure you've flashed the BIOS using the correct BIOS for your system board; flashing the wrong BIOS will render the board inoperable.

    What's the differences between the CS1 and CS1L system?

  • Video memory: CS1 has 4MB dedicated video memory, CS1L shares video memory with system memory
  • UltraDMA/66: CS1 supports UltraDMA/66 IDE HDDs, CS1L only supports UltraDMA/33 IDE HDDs.

    How do I disable the onboard audio?

  • Set JP4 to 2-3. Refer to the system board diagram for the location of JP4.

    How do I enable the UltraDMA/66 IDE support?

  • You need an IDE HDD that is UltraDMA/66 compliant.
  • In addition, make sure the IDE cable (40 pin, 80 conduct) you're using is also UltraDMA/66 compliant.

    My HDD is not UltraDMA/66, can I still use it?

  • Yes, the Intel 810 IDE controller is downwardly compatible with PIO, DMA, or UltraDMA/33 HDDs.

    How come it seems like I'm missing 1MB of memory during the memory count screen?

  • The Intel 810 chipset always allocate 1MB of system memory for the onboard video adapter.

    I'm have a Celeron/xxxMHz processor, what's the correct jumper settings?

  • Refer to the Processor Settings section.

    Can I use the slot 1 Celeron processor?

  • No, this board only accepts the socket version of the Celeron (i.e., the PPGA370 [plastic pin grid array] version).

    What is the front side bus (FSB) of the Celeron/366/400/433/466/500/533 processor?

  • As of today (07/28/1999), all Celeron processors run at 66MHz FSB, regardless if it's the slot 1 or PGA370 version.

    Can I upgrade or downgrade the onboard 4MB display cache?

  • No, the CS1's display cache is fixed at 4MB.

    I've turned the system on, but I'm getting no power (i.e., power supply fan does not spin).

  • Make sure the cable from the case's power switch is connected properly to the board's power on jumper; refer to the motherboard manual.
  • Try reseating the ATX power connector to the motherboard.
  • Disconnect all the power connectors to your HDD, FDD, CD-ROM, etc. then try powering the system up.
  • Try replacing the ATX power supply.

    I have two USB ports in the back, how do I enable them?

  • Windows NT 4.0 currently do not support USB.
  • Windows 98 comes with native USB drivers.
  • Windows 95 (version 950B/950C only!) can enable the USB ports by getting the Microsoft USB driver and Intel USB INF update.

    Can I use just one DIMM?

  • Yes, the system board will work with just one DIMM present.

    What is the CS1's maximum memory capacity?

  • It is 256MB (two 128MB DIMMs).

    What kind of DIMMs should I use?

  • The PREMIO CS1 motherboard only accepts PC100, unbuffered, 3.3V SDRAM DIMM ONLY!
  • Due to the design of the Intel 810 chipset, you must use PC100 DIMM enough though the current Celeron's FSB is 66MHz.

    I have a PnP soundcard and PnP modem, but I'm getting conflicts.

  • It's recommended that you let the modem take COM2 (2F8h/IRQ3); see the question below.
  • And set the soundcard at 220h/IRQ5/DMA1, if possible.
  • Also, try adding the card in one at all time; put the soundcard in first, let 95 detect it, then add the modem.

    I have a plug and play modem, how do I setup it for COM2 in Windows 95?

  • Disable serial port 2 in the BIOS and remove the COM2 port, if present, in Windows 95's Device Manager.

    Processor Settings
    There are no physical jumpers or DIP switches to set for processor speed. The processor speed is set in the BIOS using the following clock multiplier setting (see the table below).

    To get into the BIOS, keep hitting the DELETE key during the memory count screen. Go to FREQUENCY/VOLTAGE SETTINGS and set the CPU clock multiplier accordingly:

    For higher speed Celerons (like the 466MHz or faster), the clock multiplier is locked. Which means you don't have to manually set the multiplier in the BIOS. The BIOS will automatically detect and set the processor speed accordingly. It does not matter what multiplier you set in the BIOS (either lower or higher).

    For the keyboard lock jumper, putting a jumper on it will lock the keyboard; so it should be open by default. If the HDD LED, power LED, or speaker doesn't work, try reversing the connector.

    Don't mix up the PS/2 mouse and keyboard connector, otherwise your keyboard may not work properly. It's highly recommended that you use powered speakers for the onboard sound.
