    BIOS Questions

Do you have a BIOS history file that includes the problem(s) fixed for each revision of the BIOS?

  • Yes, click here for the file.

How do I flash or upgrade my BIOS?

  • Updated BIOS are available on our FTP site.

I'm running Windows 9x and plug & play doesn't seem to work.

  • Go into the BIOS's PC/PnP Configuration and enable the PnP OS option.

How do I clear the CMOS? How do I clear the BIOS password?

  • Power off your system, move JBAT1 to 2-3 and leave it there for 2 or 3 seconds.
  • Move JBAT1 back to 1-2 and power up your system.

I flashed my BIOS, but now I get no video.

  • Try clearing your CMOS (see above).

    Hardware Questions

    I'm have a Celeron/366 or 400, what's the correct jumper settings?

  • The Celeron/366 or 400's clock multiplier is locked.
  • Which means it does not matter what your jumper settings are; the BIOS will autodetect and run the processor at the correct speed.

I have >512MB of RAM with a Pentium II/233-333 CPU, and my system performance is very slow.

  • Pentium II/233-333 CPUs cannot cache beyond 512MB of RAM.
  • You need to upgrade to a Pentium II/350 or higher to cache >512MB of RAM.

How do I change the processor speed? There's no jumpers or DIP switches!

  • There's two version of the BX board: jumper (with the DIP switch) and jumperless (CPU speed set in the BIOS).
  • For the jumperless version, you can change the processor clock speed from the BIOS. Go to Special Features Setup / CPU Plug & Play.

I have a Pentium II/350, but I accidentally set it for Pentium II/500 in the BIOS. Now I can't get back into the BIOS to change it!

  • Turn the system off, hold down the F10 key and power up the system.
  • This will set the CPU speed to the lowest speed possible.

I have a Pentium II/350 and I have set it to Pentium II/400 in the BIOS or using the DIP switch, and the system seems to be working.

  • It is possible to overclock a CPU, but the stability of the system may be compromised. In other words: DO SO AT YOUR OWN RISK!

I can't seem to run the system reliably with the 100MHz memory bus.

  • Make sure your SDRAM is rated for PC100. Don't try to push 66MHz SDRAM to 100MHz. It may work but the system may be very unstable.

I've turned the system on, but I'm getting no power (i.e., power supply fan does not even spin).

  • Make sure the wire from your power switch is connected properly to the motherboard; see the motherboard manual.
  • Try reseating the ATX power connector to the motherboard.
  • Disconnect all power connectors to your HDD, FDD, CD-ROM, etc. then try to turn the system on.

I have two USB ports in the back, how do I get them to work?

  • Windows NT 4.0 currently do not support USB.
  • Windows 98 have native support for USB.
  • Windows 95 (version 950B or 950C) can enable the USB ports by getting the Microsoft USB driver and the Intel USB INF update.

Can I use just one DIMM?

  • Yes, the system board will work with just one DIMM present.

What kind of DIMMs should I use?

  • The PREMIO BX motherboard only takes unbuffered 3.3V SDRAM DIMM ONLY!

I have a PnP soundcard and PnP modem, but I'm getting conflicts.

  • It's recommended that you let the modem take COM2 (2F8h/IRQ3); see the question below.
  • And set the soundcard at 220h/IRQ5/DMA1, if possible.
  • Also, try adding the card in one at all time; put the soundcard in first, let 95 detect it, then add the modem.

I have a plug and play modem, how do I setup it for COM2 in Windows 95?

  • Disable serial port 2 in the BIOS and remove the COM2 port, if present, in Windows 95's Device Manager.

I get no video; how do I troubleshoot it?

  • Try reseating your video cards, memory, and CPU; or try swapping out the components.
